New Delhi: Elon Musk-owned satellite company Starlink has entered India as it has registered its business here and is in process to apply for licenses in the country.
''Pleased to share that SpaceX now has a 100% owned subsidiary in India. The name is SSCPL - Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited and the incorporation date is Nov 1, 2021. Happy Birthday, SSCPL. We can now start applying for licenses, open bank accounts etc,'' Sanjay Bhargava, India director for Starlink said in a LinkedIn post.
This company provides internet facility through satellite.
Reportedly, according to a top company official, SpaceX's satellite broadband arm Starlink is aiming to launch broadband services by December 2022 with 2 lakh active terminals in India.
The company is now just waiting for the permission of the government.
In this area, it will compete directly with Bharti Airtel and OneWeb, a joint venture company of the UK government, besides Amazon Inc.
According to the document filed with the government, this company named Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited will apply for license to provide broadband and other satellite based services in India.
The company said, SpaceX is now a 100 percent owned company in India. Its name is SSCPL- Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited. Starlink claims that it has received over 5,000 pre-orders from India.
