Silchar: An awareness programme on the topic ‘human trafficking’ was organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Cachar, at the premises of South Barak Community Hall, Binnkandi Part – II recently.
A number of speakers put forth the various aspects of human trafficking at the programme which was conducted by Dipak Prajapati and P Rajendra Singh, paralegal volunteer, DLSA, Cachar. The programme was presided over by CM Mohan Singh. Sujata Dutta, Assam Judicial Service, Silchar and secretary, DLSA, Cachar who graced the occasion as chief guest, spoke at length about the issues, concerns, and problems related to human trafficking.
Sujata Dutta said that the menace of human trafficking should be curbed and nipped in the bud. She said that DLSA is always ready to extend its help, aid, and assistance to the poor, innocent people who are being exploited and harassed. Children and poor people are the worst sufferers of human trafficking. Village Defense Party deputy advisor Rajen Goala assured that VDP would always stand by those sufferers. He asked everyone to report such incidences to VDP personnel. Anuradha Singh explained in details about human trafficking and advised all to be alert and awake.
Inspector Anwar Hussain Choudhury, officer-in-charge, Lakhipur police station also said that both police and VDP are there to help people and such incidents be reported immediately to the nearest police station. Advocate L Mamon Singha in his speech laid down the very purpose behind organizing such an awareness programme.
