Hailakandi: Hailakandi Police on Saturday nabbed four cow lifters on the eve of Bakr Eid. According to Officer-in-charge of Hailakandi Sadar Police Station, Badan Singpho, the cow lifters were caught by the people when they tried to push the cows grazing in a field at Bandukmara into a pick-up van. On being informed, the police rushed to the site and nabbed the cow lifters and brought them to the police station.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rabijul Islam (21), son of Basir Uddin Barbhuiya, village Chandrapur Part- I, Lala, Faruque Ahmed Laskar, son of Irman Ali Laskar, village Chandrapur Pt I Lala, Charim Uddin Laskar alias Kala, son of Rehan Ali Laskar, village Sudarshanpur Pt- I, Samarikona Bandukmara and Anowar Hussain Laskar (32), son of Rekmat Ali Laskar of village Sudharshanpur Pt I, Samarikona.
They have been arrested in connection with Hailakandi PS case No 860 u/s 379/34 IPC. The gang was involved in recent cow theft in the area. They have been remanded to three days police custody by the district and sessions court. Interrogation is on to unearth the entire racket, informed Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath.
With Bakr Eid round the corner, Hailakandi Police have beefed up security in the cattle markets at Panchgram, Algapur and other places and keeping vigil on roads during transportation of cattle to different parts of the district. The police administration has assured Muslim community leaders, including imams, in a meeting convened by the district administration to ensure a peaceful Eid and that security would be provided in the cattle markets to keep trouble-makers at bay.
