DC Keerthi Jalli Urges Functionaries To Tone up Health Services in Hailakandi District

Hailakandi: Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli reviewed the entire health care services in Hailakandi district. At a marathon review meeting of the District Health Society with health officials and functionaries held under her chairmanship at her office conference hall on Thursday, Jalli asked them to ensure maximum access to health care facilities by poor and vulnerable sections of the society. She underscored the need to ensure access to medical facilities through leverage of technology and utilisation of equipment for improving health care.

“Strict instructions were passed for improvement in all health services across the spectrum and ensuring minimising Out-of-Pocket expenditures of patients,” said an health official privy to the development. Jalli directed the officials and functionaries to ensure quality and timely health care to the deprived, poor and vulnerable segments of the society. The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials to plug the gaps for effective implementation of the schemes and programmes. She asked the doctors not to prescribe medicines other than listed by government to patients. If any doctor is found prescribing medicines not in the government list, he or she will be dealt with severely, she warned. Bringing accountability by highlighting lapses in the health delivery process, increasing uptake of appropriate health services at the right places and identifying major issues that people face in the health care delivery services were underlined in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the state of infrastructure in PHCs and their connectivity to nearby villages and the need to build awareness about accountability in health care. Jalli made it clear that she would review each maternal and infant death every month to come up with proper interventions to reduce the mortality rate. She exhorted upon the health functionaries to ensure implementation of prestigious health schemes of state and central governments so that the benefits percolate down to the poor and marginalised sections.

She instructed them to prepare comprehensive Action Plan based on health indicators for 2019-20 and to submit to her well in advance so that the targets are achieved within the stipulated timeframe.

At a hospital management committee meeting held under her chairmanship at SK Roy Civil Hospital on Friday, Jalli asked the health functionaries to provide the best of medical care and treatment at the hospital so that patients no longer have to be referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Noting the rise in number of referral cases in the past few months, Jalli directed them to avoid making unwanted referral.

Expressing unhappiness over the state of cleanliness, hygiene, public complaints with doctors and nurses not conducting their duties well at the civil hospital, Jalli warned that strict action would be taken against those for dereliction of duty. Joint Director, Health Services, Dr.Abed Rasul Mazumder, Superintendent of SK Roy Civil Hospital and members of the hospital management committee were present in the meeting.
