Dr Nandi Purkayastha Conferred Lifetime Achievement Award

Silchar: Renowned, legendary and eminent orthopaedic surgeon of Silchar Dr Sujit Kumar Nandi Purkayastha has been conferred ‘Lifetime Achievement Award 2019’ by Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. Nandi Purkayastha did his MBBS from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in the year 1965 and then joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, AIIMS as a post-graduate trainee. He successfully qualified Master of Surgery in the year 1969. He began his professional career at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Silchar in 1970 as a Registrar.

His zest and zeal to work and serve people resulted in the opening of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at SMCH in 1973. He became the head of the same department in 1987 and worked there till he retired. Nandi Purkayastha worked as vice principal cum additional chief superintendent of SMCH, principal cum chief superintendent of SMCH. Silchar BJP MP Dr Rajdeep Roy congratulated him. Dr Rajdeep Roy was the student of Dr Sujit Kumar Nandi Purkayastha.
