Eight Religious Places of Hailakandi District to Get Major Facelift

Hailakandi: Eight religious places of Hailakandi district have been included under Asom Darshan scheme for major facelift to make them attractive for devotees and tourists alike.

The Government of Assam has allocated Rs.10 lakh each for betterment of amenities and infrastructure development of the eight religious places of Hailakandi district viz., Siddeshwar Shiva Mandir, Gauriya Math, Gopal Gobinda Jews Ashram, Harinam Mandir, Lengti Baba Mandir, Miraping Dargah, Presbyterian Church of India (Garod Punji) and Tantoo Pir Mandir.

Drinking water facilities, public toilet, rooms for the pilgrims, car parking and installation of CCTV cameras for enhanced security of the places will be done in the first phase followed by construction of boundary wall, internal pavement, park-garden, mini museum, library and electrification in the second phase.

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Faihraem at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall on Monday to discuss the issues relating to documentation of the religious places with photographs for onward submission to the government. Faihraem asked the president and secretaries of the religious places to submit the relevant information by coming Friday.

The ADC asked the office bearers to submit the list containing the names of five persons from each religious institution who will visit Guwahati to attend the ceremonial launching of the Asom Darshan scheme by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on February 1. The district administration will bear the transportation cost of the to and fro journey.

Over 1,000 religious and historical places, and places of tourist interests in the state will be given facelift. Rs.300 crore has been earmarked for the purpose in the 2019-20 budget.
