Hailakandi district administration distributed 5 kg rice among people sans NFSA cards

HAILAKANDI: The Hailakandi district administration has distributed five kg rice each to non NFSA card holders as a part of relief operation due to the countrywide COVID-19 lockdown. Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli allotted rice to some non NFSA card holders here on Friday. Hailakandi and Lala towns have completed the relief distribution in a systematic manner ward wise following social distancing norms on Thursday.

Executive Officer, Hailakandi Municipal Board, Tridip Roy disclosed that 155.45 quintals of rice have been distributed to 871 families comprising 3,109 non NFSA beneficiaries under 16 wards of the municipality. Executive Officer, Lala Municipal Board, J.Daimary revealed that 39.60 quintals of rice have been given away to 225 non NFSA families comprising 792 members under 10 wards of the municipality.

Meanwhile, rice under non NFSA for seven numbers of gaon panchayats under the Hailakandi development block have been lifted from FCI depot at Lala. Under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic), rice is being allotted to the tea garden workers of the district for the month of April. 1,529 kgs of fish have been sold out from different distribution outlets for delivery at doorstep across the district covering around 1,710 families on Friday. 21451.4 kgs of fish have been home delivered through a network of nine wholesalers and 120 retailers. 945 kgs of chicken and 1180 litres of milk have been delivered at doorstep of people on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Assam Science Society, Hailakandi branch has been creating awareness on wearing of masks and face covers to keep novel coronavirus at bay. Members of the organisation distributed masks and hand wash to the police and civil administrations, municipal workers, cobblers, vendors, cart pullers and general public. Dreams, an NGO has also pitched in by putting up banners 'no mask, no entry' at important thoroughfares of the town. Not to be left behind are the petrol pump owners who have stopped giving fuel to those not wearing masks or face covers.

The district administration has made wearing of masks and face covers mandatory in the district. The police has arrested 69 persons for not wearing masks and registered six cases in this connection.
