Hailakandi: Hailakandi Police is on a different role altogether. The cops here are on swachhta mission spreading awareness among the masses about the importance of cleanliness, hygiene and to shunning single-use plastic.
As a part of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, the Hailakandi Police organised street corner meetings with the public in all the police station areas to create awareness regarding swachhata on Saturday. The cops urged the people to make cleanliness a way of life, to build toilets, plant trees and maintain their surroundings clean, and administering the swachhta pledge. They also urged the residents and shopkeepers to use dustbin and to segregate waste, not to litter around and dump garbage in open spaces and to keep the drains clog free.
In the street corner meetings, the cops motivated the gathering to keep the surroundings clean, and contribute to achieve the dream of Swachh Bharat. “Unhygienic conditions can create health problems, so it is their duty to keep the surroundings clean, “ the cops told the public.
They urged the gathering not to use single-use plastic as it has been banned in the district with a warning that strict action would be initiated against one violating the order as per provisions of law. Announcement was also made over the loud speaker.
Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath said, “Seeing how the rest of India is striving hard towards achieving the dream of a clean India, we, too, thought of contributing towards the noble cause in a small but modest way.”
Nath further disclosed that the cleanliness campaign will continue till October 2 with plans to take out a procession cum cleaning drive in Hailakandi town on Monday from 8-30 am to 9-30 am. He appealed to all sections of society to participate actively in the cleanliness drive and to make it a grand success. The district administration is also spearheading a massive cleanliness drive through a host of activities.
