Silchar: An obscure and unknown Manipuri Youth Front (MYF) of Assam, masquerading as the representative of Manipuri community, while protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, through a bike rally with flags and banners of its organization moving through the roads of the western part of this town indulged in anti national gestures by raising objectionable slogans. This drew the attention of all sensible and responsible citizens who were extremely baffled and dismayed at the daredevil broad day antics of a handful of youths. In fact, there exists neither any police picket or police outpost which could promptly act and detain them for questioning.

The bike riders quite prudently kept themselves away from the glare of police by limiting their bike ride within the precincts of a safe zone. But, their slogans which include ‘Welcome China’, ‘Down with India’, ‘Bye bye India’ among others went viral in the social media which then became the news items of the local print and electronic media. Every citizen has the right to express his or her dissent on any issue, but cannot take the liberty to challenge the democratic and constitutional edifice of the country. The riders, all in their young age, could not immediately be identified as they had a ride for a brief moment and thereafter withdrew themselves to safer place.

Barak Valley Youth Union (BVYU) of Cachar taking serious umbrage at the outrageous act of the youths in a written submission to Laya Madduri, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Monday has demanded action against these persons who can easily be identified on the basis of intelligence inputs and local eye witnesses and dealt with in accordance with the law of the land. The Union, an association of youths and students, sees in it a greater design on the pretext of protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. It has sought joint investigation by the district civil and police administration for initiating stringent measures against the anti national elements in order to nip in the bud the attempt to cause civil disturbance in the region and also cause dissension between communities and groups. The memorandum signed by the members of the BVYU is hopeful that the Deputy Commissioner will initiate prompt action in order to preempt any further such mischievous and nefarious design in the midst of the raging controversy over the Bill.
