Silchar: As pre-planned, North East Linguistic and Ethnic Coordination Committee (NELECC) held mass rally and protest demonstration before the statue of Khudiram Bose Statue in Silchar on Tuesday and decided to carry on agitation to pressure the Union Government for implementation of the September 7, 2015 Notifications for ensuring protection of the persecuted Hindus from East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, till CAB becomes effective. NELECC sent a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar after the public meeting.
NELECC leaders are yet to be convinced by the words of Ram Madhav, all India general secretary of BJP, Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Minister and NEDA convener, who at different functions here, spoke of the passage of CAB in the winter session of Parliament, but maintained silence on the twin September Notifications. Last evening, while addressing an impressive gathering of under the banner of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Abhiyan’ at police parade ground was most assertive when he said if Articles 370 and 53 A could be scrapped, he did not see any hurdle in the passage of CAB. CAB would not be applicable for Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
Even after such assertive voice of Himanta Biswa Sarma, NELECC leader Santanu Naik looked sceptic. He asked if it was going to be all safe for the persecuted Hindus, what was the need for 200 more FTs in the State? Sarma did hint some have to go to FTs and detention camps, leaving many in the audience guessing. All nationalist minded people of the State voted profusely for BJP, knowing fully well its poll promise to implement CAB in order to keep Ajmal brigade from coming to power. The only opposition would be from a section of Congress. He at the same time made it clear those coming to the state of Assam after December 31, 2014 would get citizenship. NELECC central team leaders who included, besides Naik, Ashis Haldar, Purna Chandra Mandal among others at the rally raised the legitimate question why the centre failed to impress the state to implement the Notifications. During the update process, Hindu Bengalis had to undergo tremendous mental pressure as their citizenship certificates, refugee cards and documents from other states were rejected. It has included foreigners and excluded genuine Indian citizens.
The 5 point memorandum to Prime Minister demands that no case against Hindu and member of indigenous tribe be sent to FT as they are protected under 2015 Notifications. Save the excluded people from further harassment by border police. All Hindus in detention camps be released immediately. It has also demanded inclusion of the members from the linguistic and ethnic groups on the High Level Committee for the implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord. Lastly, the Prime Minister has been impressed for implementation of the Notifications. Simultaneous rallies and demonstrations were held at Karimganj and Hailakandi before the offices of Deputy Commissioners.
