‘NRC: Colossus wastage of public money and man power’ Says Dr Rajdeep Roy

Silchar: MP Dr Rajdeep Roy expressed his total displeasure at the way NRC final list has been published. He dubbed it as a “wild goose chase,” a monumental exercise going haywire. It has been a colossal wastage of public money and manpower. For this total mess, he squarely blamed State Coordinator Prateek Hajela who acted arbitrarily like a dictator without trying to understand the intricacies of the endemic problem of Assam.

On such important and sensitive issue, Hajela kept the State government and the Centre in the dark. He should have taken them into confidence. Instead, he ignored them and the result an NRC caught in the cobweb of intriguing questions and controversies, pointed out Dr Roy.

Dr Rajdeep Roy did not stop here. He said, “Prateek Hajela played into the hands of those who have all along been playing the dirty vote-bank politics and the appeasement card. After the publication of NRC, these leaders are maintaining silence. In fact, they have become irrelevant today. It is an open secret for any sensible person to understand how the demographic profile of Assam has been totally distorted, threatening the identity and culture of indigenous people.

Before undertaking such monumental exercise, Dr Rajdeep Roy said it would have been better if Prateek Hajela could study well the background of the unabated influx of aliens into the State and also the deeper conspiracy behind it. A study of the census reports of 1911, 1921, 1931, and most importantly 1951 could have given him the fair idea, he pointed out. Quite significant are the observations made by the census superintendents of the time.

Asked about the large number of Hindu left outs form the NRC, Dr Roy said for the moment all of them have to go through and follow the FT process for which four month time has been given. He at the same time supported the demand of BJP State President Ranjit Dass for a national NRC. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also seized of the matter. “BJP is committed to safeguard the interests of Hindus,” Dr Rajdeep Roy stated but declined to comment if CAB is still under active consideration of the Narendra Modi Government. According to Dharmananda Deb, leading advocate, after looking at the fate of NRC on which around Rs 2000 crores and nearly 1 lakh man power were used, the best way to protect the identity and culture of all indigenous people is to strengthen and fortify border fencing of Assam with the modern scientific gadgets like Israel.
