Silchar: PHE Minister Rihon Daimary taking forward the State government’s drive for making each and every district clean and green called upon the congregation at the auditorium of Banga Bhavan in Silchar on Thursday to avoid use of plastic products. It is the moral duty of citizens to follow the noble dictum and motivate others to say goodbye to plastics. Shimla town of Himachal Pradesh in the country has become totally plastic free and this has been possible due to the consciousness of citizens there. Such an example has to be emulated by all. The Minister said pollution and artificial flood like situation in urban areas is due to the use of plastics and their careless disposal. Roads and streets as well as drains become the dumping ground of used plastics.

Plastics, the Minister pointed out, are also the cause of polluting river water which leads to various types of water born diseases. He also expressed his displeasure at the way water is being misused. His advice to all is to use water judiciously and discreetly. Water is precious to life. Cautionary notes are being issued by environmentalists about the depleting water resources. This will create serious human crisis. The minister added to say fault zones have been identified in the country. If we are not cautious and concerned now, it will be too late to regret.
