Hailakandi: The Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Indrakumari Girls Higher Secondary School kicked off at the school premises in Hailakandi town on Wednesday. Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the leading school. The chief guest galvanised the students to carry forward the torch of goodness and kindness as they are the light of the world. Jalli also lauded the efforts of teachers and students and congratulated them for their efforts. She expressed her profound joy at being a part of the celebrations.

Later she interacted with the students and inspired them to work towards a better future and motivated them to be responsible citizens of tomorrow. The Deputy Commissioner also released a souvenir on the momentous occasion. A colourful rally was brought out in the morning joined in by hundreds of students, former students and teachers which traversed through the main thoroughfares of the town and ended in the school premises.

Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha, Principal of the school, Dipak Chakraborty, former teachers and alumni along with a host of dignitaries attended the celebrations.

“It is a day to remember very fondly and gratefully those personalities who had been instrumental in shaping the great institution. The journey of 75 years very graciously bears the marks of their dedication,” said the speakers.

The old students stated that they would strive to bring back the old glory of the school.

Set up in 1944, the school has been named after eminent personality and philanthropist, Indrakumari Devi.

A school that started with a handful of students, today stands tall and proud with 638 students on rolls. Meanwhile, the celebration committee has lined up a plethora of activities spread over the year to mark its eventful long journey.
