Poshan Maah 2019 Kicks Off in Hailakandi District

Hailakandi: As part of Jan Andolan, Poshan Maah 2019 is being observed in Hailakandi district. Observed in the Anganwadi Centres and ICDS centres across the district by Social Welfare and other line departments, added thrust is being given on combating malnutrition in order to make the district in particular and the country in general healthy and prosperous.

Issues such as hygiene, sanitation, safe drinking water, diarrhoea management, full immunization and promotion with the attendees are being addressed. During the programme, the participants are also made aware of various issues such as optimal breastfeeding, anaemia prevention in children, adolescent girls, food fortification and micronutrients.

Nutritious food is given to pregnant women and children in Anganwadi centres on a regular basis. In Algapur Assembly constituency, an innovative scheme named ‘Annaprashana’ - that marks an infant’s first intake of food - has been formally launched. This innovative initiative has earned encomiums for the administration. Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said Anganwadi workers armed with poshan concept will visit neighbouring houses and adopt them.

Poshan Abhiyan, a mission launched by the Government of India on March 8, 2018, to tackle malnutrition among children between the age group of 0-6 years. The target is to reduce stunting among children from 38.4 per cent to 25 per cent by 2022. The programme is also expected to ensure service delivery and interventions by use of technology, behavioural change through convergence and lays-down specific targets to be achieved across different monitoring parameters.

Gossaigaon: The first annual general meet was held and Poshan Maah was observed by Rainbow Cluster Level Federation, Gambaribil Cluster under Kachugaon Development Block at Bharaguri Durgamandir field under Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district on Monday. A prize distribution programme for the best SHG, VO and CLF was also organized to inspire the local groups. Kaustubh Roy, Magistrate of Gossaigaon Civil SDO office, Bichitra Birjya Narzary, DPM, ASRLM, Kokrajhar and other dignitaries were present in the programme.
