Hailakandi: A district-level Poshan Maah Rally was taken out on the concluding day of the month-long nutrition drive in Hailakandi town on Monday. Flagging off the rally at her office campus, Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said the administration will carry out the nutrition drive till Hailakandi district becomes anemia-free. Jalli extended her thanks to the heads of line departments, CDPOs, supervisors, anganwadi workers and health functionaries for making the Poshan Maah a success in the district.

Organised by the district administration, District Social Welfare department and other line departments, the rally comprising CDPOs, supervisors, AWW and AWH workers, traversed through the main thoroughfares of the town.

Convergence meeting of all stakeholders, awareness drive, poshan rally, recipe demonstration and essay competition were held in all the development blocks.

A day-long Maa-Beti Mela was organised by the administration at Monacherra High School as part of Poshan Maah on Sunday.

Talks centering on how to remain healthy and strong during pregnancy and steps required to reduce anemia through intake of nutritious food were delivered by doctors and resource persons. Anemia T3 camps were held and iron folic medicine distributed free of cost.

The major highlights of the mela were recipe demonstration, Dibbi Adan Pradhan (exchange of tiffin) among malnourished children and feeding pregnant/lactating women with nutritious food under the Godhbharai programme. Colourful dances such as Monipuri, Hrankhol, Bengali, Nukkad Natak and a host of cultural activities were performed much to the delight of the huge gathering.

District Coordinator, Rajat Chakraborty, District Social Welfare Officer, J Daimari, Subdivisional Agriculture Officer, AR Ahmed and officials of health, public health engineering and other concerned departments were present on the occasion. RBSK, Childline, SHGs and VOs took part in the mela.

Poshan Maah was also observed at Algapur to sensitise women and children on issues of health and hygiene together with other related activities. The nutritional drive was boosted by amla-gur (gooseberry-jaggery) candy prepared at homes and distributed at every awareness meeting and mela among the pregnant women and malnourished children.
