Hailakandi: Deputy Commissioner of Hailakandi Keerthi Jalli asked all the concerned departments to remain in a state of preparedness for the next wave of flood. In a meeting convened at her office conference hall here Monday, DC Jalli said the departments must prepare themselves to tackle the next wave of flood.
Jalli asked the officials of the Water Resources Department to plug the breaches and to strengthen the embankments on time. The officials of Health, Public Health Engineering, Food and Civil Supplies, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Power and other line departments to remain in preparedness mode to deal with the next wave of floods.
The meeting reviewed the extent of damages to infrastructure and took stock of the measures taken for restoration. It also discussed threadbare regarding the identification of vulnerable areas and the formulation of a comprehensive action plan for tackling the flood situation. Additional Deputy Commissioner, RK Dam, circle officers, a senior police official and district heads of concerned departments were present.
Jalli asked all the departments concerned to submit detailed flood damage report along with proper documentation for onward submission to the state government. State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, through video conferencing on Thursday, asked the DCs of flood-affected districts to submit infrastructure damage estimate at the earliest. Meanwhile, the flood situation further improved with water receding in different parts of the district. As of now, 28 villages under Algapur revenue circle are reeling under floodwaters. Medical teams numbering 60 have fanned out to provide medical care and treatment, including medicines to the affected. Veterinary and animal husbandry department organized 10 numbers of vaccination and treatment camps for the affected livestock.
