Skill India Mission Opens New Opportunities: Jan Shikshan Sansthan

Silchar: “Skill India mission has opened a new vista of hope and opportunities for youths and persons of grit and determination to change the very course of their life for sustainable living in an eco-friendly environment,” pointed out Souvik Das Chowdhury, director, Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Silchar. On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the mission, the theme chosen is to build a polythene free society. Use of polythene indiscriminately has become a cause of great nuisance that disturbs the rhythm of a hygienic and healthy life, said Das Chowdhury.

The Director reminded the dream of Mahatma Gandhi was to see clean and green living from village to town. The visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward the goal through his much-hyped and much appreciated ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ across the country. Keeping in mind this ethos, JSS has been giving training to aspiring candidates in making eco-friendly things of use. The trainees after proper guidance have made carrying bags as an alternative to polythene. They have at the same time procured an order from the market for 2000 bags, each one costing just Rs 5 only.

This is no doubt a positive move which will motivate people to shun polythene bags and take to the eco-friendly bags. 50 youths have been given training in tailoring on this occasion. The fortnightly program of JSS has focused on creating awareness among people of slum areas, holding rallies, organizing health camps and other creative activities in rural and tea belt areas. NGOs of the areas have been involved in it, the director stated. “Our motto is to reach the message of cleanliness to every nook and corner of the society and this drive is yielding results,” he observed. This is no doubt a great leap forward.

As a part of its better way of living, Bariknagar, a sleepy nondescript village, has been selected for developing it as a model one. The thrust is to make the village economically strong and also an ideal in cleanliness. Steps have been initiated in this direction, added to say, Das Chowdhury. District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) has taken a pivotal role. The fourth anniversary was observed by organizing a function in the premises of DRDA here today which was presided over by Bimal Nath Choudhury, the educationist.

Partha Sarathi Bhattacharjee, secretary, DLSA, said their organization is committed to serving the poor and needy people of the society. Those having income below Rs 25000 annually and belong to SC, ST, women and jailed groups are given financial help to contest their legal cases. The fund is made available by the Centre, Bhattacharjee pointed out. Kimneimem Changsan, assistant commissioner, and Bimalendu Rakshit, joint secretary, among others spoke on the occasion.
