Hailakandi: As part of Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, the Hailakandi police administration brought out a rally to create general awareness on cleanliness on Monday.

Pitching in its efforts for a clean and healthy Hailakandi, the police personnel swung into action cleaning the roads and drains as they kept on moving to different parts of the town. Leading from the front was Superintendent of Police Pabindra Kumar Nath, who was accompanied by Executive Officer, Hailakandi Municipal Board, Prodip Timung, DSP, Nayan Moni Barman and other officials.

The cleaning operation began at 8.30 am and continued for an hour. Police personnel with brooms in hand and wearing hand gloves went on a cleaning spree of the garbage on the roadside and freeing the clogged drains and outlets. They collected the garbage in eco-friendly bags to drive home the message to the people to shun the use of plastic bags and other banned plastic items in the district. The cleanliness drive was also organized by all the police stations and outposts across the district.

SP, Nath urged the police personnel the need for cleanliness in all walks of life and to keep the offices and surroundings spic and span to keep diseases at bay. Street corner meetings were held on Sunday to build awareness on cleanliness and to discard single-use plastic. The police administration is planning to organise cleanliness drive and other related activities coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.
