Silchar: Job mela for the job seekers was organised at ITI Srikona near Silchar for the first time by the Directorate of Employment and Craftsman Training in coordination with National Career Service on Saturday which attracted a good number of youths, boys and girls, from across the Valley of Barak. Kishor Nath, MLA of Borkhola, graced the occasion as guest of honour while Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Barnali Sharma, was the chief guest of the function. Kishore Nath addressing the assembly of youths and participants said, “I am happy that the Directorate of Employment has taken the initiative to hold this kind of mela which I hope will open new vista of opportunities for the job seekers.”

Kishore Nath pointed out the State government led by Sarbananda Sonowal is committed to work for the welfare of the youths. There is change in governance which is based on transparency and accountability. Those being appointed as teachers and against vacancies in various departments of the State admit the ‘days of cash for jobs’ are over. New policies are being evolved so that appointments in all fields of the State of Assam are fair and beyond any question.

Barnali Sharma speaking on the occasion said, “Owing to lack of opportunities and possibilities in this valley, youths after acquiring degrees and diplomas move out from here in quest of jobs which she described as most unfortunate. There is no scope for self-employment as well. This is synonym to brain-drain. This has to stop.” She is however hopeful with the platform created by the Directorate of Employment, a new horizon will definitely be ushered in. She reached out to the recruiters to provide the candidates the best of opportunities.

The companies and firms which participated in the mela included Reliance, Jio, Infocom Ltd. Mild job manpower consultancy, Barak valley cement company ltd, Jain udyog, Big bazaar, C G foods, Sri Gautam construction limited, ABCL infrastructure private ltd, SBI life insurance, Instacart services private limited and M/S Rudra casting. 1070 candidates have registered their names.
