AGARTALA: In a significant operation, Tripura Police achieved a major breakthrough by confiscating three kilograms of heroin worth Rs 13.8 crore in the international market. The seizure took place in the Ambassa area of the Dhalai district, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Mahabul Alam and Piklu Bhowmik. Authorities discovered the contraband concealed inside the suspects' vehicle, carefully hidden within an improvised cloth bag.

The interception occurred when a Mahindra Thar bearing the registration number TR01 BU 0234 was stopped at Naka Point by the Ambassa Police Station. Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, law enforcement officials uncovered 300 packets of heroin weighing a total of 3.415 kilograms, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 13.8 crore. This seizure stands as one of the largest ever made in Tripura. Subsequently, the police arrested the two occupants, Mahabul Alam and Piklu Bhowmik. A case has been registered against them, ensuring due legal process.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha commended the efforts of the Tripura Police in their unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace within the state. In a tweet, he acknowledged their accomplishment, stating, "Tripura Police & other security agencies have been continuously working towards the goal of making Tripura drugs-free. In a remarkable achievement today, Dhalai district police during an anti-narcotics drive seized contraband items worth about Rs 14 crore from a vehicle & arrested two persons in this connection. This is the single biggest seizure of drugs in the state. Such efforts highlight the Police's commitment to end the drug menace."

The Tripura Police, in a release, further emphasized the persistent efforts of the Dhalai police to combat drug trafficking. This year alone, they have successfully seized 3.5 kilograms of heroin at Ganganagar Police Station and 2.9 kilograms at Kamalpur Police Station. Additionally, they have confiscated approximately 2,500 kilograms of cannabis so far.

In the preceding year, the Dhalai police achieved significant milestones in curbing drug-related activities, confiscating around 15,000 kilograms of cannabis. This resulted in the registration of 60 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the apprehension of 110 drug smugglers.

The police added that in four specific cases during the past year, individuals involved in drug trafficking were convicted, receiving prison sentences ranging from a minimum of six years to a maximum of ten years. Operating under the banner of Operation Sanjeevani, the Dhalai police have waged a relentless war against drugs and aim to achieve their goal with cooperation from all sections of society.

“During the last one year in four specific cases accused are convicted for maximum of 10 years and minimum 6 years imprisonment. Under banner of Operation Sanjeevani, Dhalai police has launched war against drug and aspires to achieve the goal with cooperation from all sections of the society," police added.

Tripura Police's remarkable seizure of Rs 13.8 crore worth of heroin marks a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace within the state. The arrest of two individuals underscores the commitment of law enforcement to create a drug-free Tripura.
