Guwahati: The familiarization programme for a Bangladeshi media delegation from 14 to July 21, 2022, undertaken by the Union Ministry of External Affairs, concluded with the journalists from the neighbouring nation winding up their two-day Assam visit yesterday.

The programme aims to strengthen socio-economic and cultural ties between India and Bangladesh.

During the first leg of their journey, the team visited New Delhi, followed by a trip to Ooty and concluded by calling upon Assam on a two-day visit before leaving for Dhaka.

On the first day, the team, led by Chief News Editor of Independent TV Ashish Ghosh Saikat, met IIT Guwahati Director Dr TG Sitharam. They discussed various matters related to Technical Education, Drone Technology, and Flood Mitigation, among others. Further, the team also explored the campus and the laboratories. They had engaging sessions with the students as well as faculty members.

The team had an informative session with Centre for Development and Peace Studies Executive Director Wasbir Hussain.

The official tour concluded with the team calling upon Minister for Environment & Forests and Act East Policy Affairs Chandra Mohan Patowary and Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua at Janata Bhawan. During the hour-long meeting, Minister Patowary highlighted the continued efforts undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to strengthen the rail and air connectivity between Assam and Dhaka.

Also present during the meeting was Commissioner and Secretary, IPRD, Diganta Barah.

The team took a tour of KAamakya Temple and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra, a press release said.
