GUWAHATI: At a joint investigation conducted by DTO (Enforcement) Guwahati and city traffic police in Jayanagar on Friday, 13 people were fined under the Motor Vehicle(Amendment) Act. DTO Kamrup (M) Bapon Kalita said, “We are holding stringent checking to ensure that the traffic rules are followed to the dot. This is for the safety of the public and we will not lenient with anyone, whoever it might be.”
As per the official communiqué issued by the State Transport department, people can be fined under eight offences: An amount of Rs 5,000 will be imposed as fine for driving without licence followed by Rs 5,000 for racing and trials of speed, Rs 10,000 for violating air & noise pollution, Rs 1,000 for not wearing seat belt by driver or passenger, Rs 1,000 for carrying children below 14 years without safety belt/child restraint system, Rs 1,000 for riding more than two persons in two-wheelers, Rs 1,000 for riding without helmets by both driver and pillion and Rs 10,000 for not providing way for emergency vehicles (Fire Service or Ambulance). Using mobile while driving will attract a fine of Rs 5,000 followed by Rs 10,000 driving vehicles during disqualification/suspension, Rs 2,000 for driving LMV with excess speed, Rs 5,000 for using vehicle without registration & fitness certificate, Rs 200 per extra passenger in transport vehicle, Rs 20,000 for overloading goods vehicles and Rs 500 for travelling without ticket.
