1.39 lakh persons declared as foreigners, 277 deported to Bangladesh till July 31, 2021

GUWAHATI: Till April 30, 2021, 4,34,396 cases had been referred to Foreigners Tribunals (FT). Out of these, 1,39,900 persons had been declared as foreigners and 1,18,616 persons had been declared as Indian citizens.

This was informed to the house during the budget session of the Assam Assembly on Monday by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Abdur Rahim Ahmed. The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, also informed that till July 31, 2021, 277 foreigners had been deported to Bangladesh.

In the written reply, Sarma also stated that in 1997, the total number of D-voter cases was 2,02,092. This number decreased to 1,04,946 in 2021.
