1,50,000 foreign cigarettes seized from Guwahati Railway Station, one arrested

GUWAHATI: Acting on a tip-off, the RPF Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) seized 15 cartons of foreign cigarettes from the Guwahati Railway Station on Sunday (April 11).

The 15 cartons of Korean cigarettes include a total of 1,50,000 cigarettes which is valued at around Rs 7,50,000.

Along with the cigarette consignment, the RPF personnel have arrested a person — Krishna Sahu (30) from Chatribari.

He was spotted by the personnel during a surprise check of parcel packages at Parcel Gate No. 02 of Guwahati Railway Station.

The personnel noticed that Sahu brought three packages by a push cart and was unloading them near the parcel Gate No. 02 in a suspicious manner. Upon interrogation, he failed to produce any document and confessed that he brought the recovered foreign-made cigarette for sending to Howrah by some train.

After observing all formalities, the recovered cigarettes with the apprehended person were handed over to Superintendent of Customs (Anti smuggling), Guwahati Division with one written FIR.
