155th Birth Anniversary of Rasaraj at Guwahati club

GUWAHATI: On the occasion to mark the 155th birth anniversary of Rasaraj, the Sahityrathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah Smriti Raksha Samiti (SLBSRS) has taken a day-long programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lakshminath Bezbaruah.

The Samiti will light 155 mud made lamp around the statue of Rasaraj at Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah Chowk at Guwahati club at 5 in the evening. Addressing media at Guwahati press club on Saturday, SLBSRS general secretary, Rantu Deka said, “Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa’s 155th birth anniversary is on October 14 and we have taken daylong programme to celebrate the occasion. There is a programme on lighting 155 lamp and the book Bezbaroa and Sambalpur written by Deepak Kumar Panda will be released in Assamese, Bengali and Nepali Language, though it was decided to release in Deori language too, but unfortunately, we will not be able to do so on that day for some technical problem. A souvenir will also be released on that day. Deepak Kumar Panda and his wife from Odisha Sambalpur will be present on that day to grace the occasion and in the evening Panda will be felicitated. Besides this, Axom Xahitya Xabha in association with Aahatguri Anchalik Sakha Sahitya Sabha has also organized a meeting.”

Deka further said that it is very necessary to preserve his remarkable contribution and his memories. Hence, the Samiti demanded the state government through a memorandum to take initiative to develop the birth place of Rasaraj, Aahatguri to develop into a tourist place including his house at Mandela Chowk of Sambalpur Odisha.g
