GUWAHATI: With the end of the Puja festivities, along with all the fun and glitter, a sewer of vice and accidents around the State has also opened up. Like every other year in the past, the Durga Puja this year has also been marked by a large number of revelers meeting with road traffic accidents in the State. These accidents are only the ones that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services.
According to sources, on October 8, 2019, the last day of the puja (Dashami), the State witnessed as many as 156 road traffic accident cases that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. Kamrup district has topped the list with 19 road traffic accidents, followed by Golaghat with 13 accidents and Morigaon coming third with 12 cases.
Nagaon witnessed 11 accident cases, Kamrup (M) and Sonitpur had 10 cases each, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh and Udalguri had 8 cases each, Barpeta had 7 cases, Bongaigaon had 6 cases, Baksa, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Hailakandi had 5 cases each, Sibsagar and Jorhat had 4 cases each, Kokrajhar, Karimganj and Dhubri had 3 cases each, Darrang and Nalbari had 2 cases each, Majuli, Cachar and Dimahasao had 1 case each. It has been noticed that Kamrup has managed to top the list on all the days of the festivities. In total, 638 road accidents were recorded collectively, on the four days of Durga Puja.
