GUWAHATI: In support of demanding the creation of headmaster posts in primary schools, 18,460 teachers have submitted a declaration letter mentioning not accepting the responsibility bonus of Rs 300.

The teachers from various sub-divisions are 177 from Dhansiri, 101 from Titabor, 179 from Bokakhat, 656 from Jorhat, 123 from Hojai, 253 from Koliabor, 635 from Golaghat, 720 from Nagaon, 110 from Margherita, 400 from Sivasagar, 257 from Nazira, 235 from Majuli, 318 from Tinsukia and Charaideo, 752 from Dibrugarh, 50 from Sadiya, 16 from Manikpur, 788 from Barpeta, 174 from Bajali, 117 from Bongaigaon, 380 from Kajlagaon, 752 from Bijni, 631 from Silchar, 1059 from Karimganj, 321 from Masalpur, 557 from Nalbari, 182 from Udalguri, and 397 from Mangaldai 262 from Bhergaon, 392 from Rangia, 495 from Tamulpur, 368 from Shalbari, 525 from Tezpur, 166 from Jonai, 186 from Dhakuakhana, 176 from Bishwanath, 179 from Gohpur, 729 from Lakhimpur, 365 from Dhemaji, 174 from Lakshipur, 693 from Goalpara, 618 from Hailakandi, 1340 from Guwahati, 394 from Morigaon, 300 from Dhubri, 317 from Bilasipara, 120 from South Salmara, 93 from Parbatjora, and 205 from North Shalmara.

Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) General Secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami said, "There are 8,430 teachers in these sub-divisions who are running schools without receiving responsibility bonuses as these are all contractual teachers. And more than 5,000 teachers from remote areas were unable to participate in the programme due to the summer holidays but will hand over their declarations to the education officers of their respective education sectors on August 1. The headmasters' of the higher education institutions also get Rs 300 as a responsibility bonus. The education minister is trying to give responsibility to a headmaster without creating the post. So, teachers protested in demand for the creation of a headmaster's post and are handing over the declaration letters."

Further, Goswami said, "On July 27, an executive meeting will be conducted, and discuss the future course of their agitation."
