2,496 jail inmates test COVID-19 positive in Assam

GUWAHATI: As on August 24, 2020, altogether 2,496 jail inmates have tested COVID-19 positive in Assam. The highest number (of 558 cases) has been reported from the Guwahati Central Jail. This was mentioned by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in the Assembly on Monday in reply to a question raised by AIUDF MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar.

The written reply of the Minister further indicated that Diphu District Jail has 339 corona positive inmates followed by 227 in Nagaon Central Jail; 211 in Dibrugarh Central Jail; 196 in Tezpur Central Jail; 193 in Golaghat District Central Jail; 179 in North Lakhimpur District Jail; 154 in Tinsukia District Jail; 125 in Kokrajhar District Jail; 102 in Barpeta District Jail; 79 in Mangaldoi District Jail; 46 in Goalpara District Jail; 35 in Nagaon Special Jail; 15 in Udalguri District Jail; 12 in 102 in Nalbari District Jail; 10 in Dhubri District Jail; and seven in 102 in Jorhat Central Jail.
