GUWAHATI: The 24th conference of the Society for Automotive Fitness and Environment (SAFE) started with a two-day schedule on Tuesday. This committee was formed by the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM) to increase awareness and promote the inspection of vehicles and the necessary documents as well as road safety.

Since its inception, SAFE has been playing a key role in terms of ensuring road safety and on the occasion of its 24th conference, the theme of ‘SAFE Roads, SAFE India: Strategies for Ensuring Safer Transportation’ has been selected.

State Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya attended the inaugural event as the chief guest. Representatives of several departments, representatives of NGOs, students and representatives of automobile companies and other organisations attended the event. Speaking on the occasion, the minister called on the public to follow the rules and regulations fixed by the government and take necessary steps to ensure road safety. He also called on the officials to follow the rules and regulations and ensure that the public does not face any problems. The executive director of SIAM, Prasant Kumar Banerjee also attended the event and spoke about the need of road safety during the event.
