251 cases of sedition registered since BJP Government came into Power: Reports

Guwahati: The Home Department on Monday revealed that around 251 sedition cases have been lodged against the outlawed factions/militant organisations, intellectuals, leaders, journalists among others in the state since the Government-led by BJP came into power from May 26, 2016.

In a query by the Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia urged the Government to submit a detailed report, to which the Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary for Home Department stated that the cases of sedition were registered against ULFA(I), NDFB(S), NDFB (B), NSCN, UPLFS, DHD, NSCN (IM), ZUF etc.

Apart from the outlawed factions/militant organisations sedition charges were also slapped against KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, Intellectual and Writer Hiren Gohain, Senior Journalist Manjit Mahanta.

It may be mentioned that in Golaghat 18 cases of sedition were reported since the Government-led by BJP came into power.

Similarly in Darrang 2 cases, South Salmara 1 case, Dibrugarh 1 case, Sadia 1 case, Hojai 1 case, Biswanath 5 cases, Chirang 43 cases, Nalbari 2 cases, Dhemaji 5 cases, Guwahati City 1 case, Cachar 19 cases, Charaideo 5 cases, Tinsukia 40 cases, Dima Hasao 11 cases, Nagaon 2 cases of sedition were registered.

Shockingly, Kokrajhar District along registered around 88 cases of sedition in these years, reads the report by the Home Department today.
