Guwahati: Owing to the detection of more Covid-19 cases, 27 additional areas in Kamrup (Metro) district have been tagged as containment zones by the district administration. Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu has directed the circle officer to seal these areas with immediate effect.

The DC has stated that anyone found violating the rules enforced in these enclosed areas will be punished under relevant sections of the law. At the same time, the containment zone tag of 17 areas has been revoked after no fresh COVID cases were detected after the sealing. These areas are -- Lamb Road, Athgaon Pukhuripar, Birubari, Kushalnagar in Bamunimoidan, Barsapara, Rupnagar, Fatasil Chariali, Silpukhri, Satgaon army camp, CISF camp, Sector-III, Noonmati, Mangaldeep Residency, Lalganesh, GS Colony, Fatasil, Tokobari, K.C. Sen Road, Swagat Apartment, Geetanagar, and Uzanbazar Railway Station.
Meanwhile, the district administration has clamped a complete lockdown in 11 wards under the city area owing to these being marked as hotspots of COVID transmissions. As a consequence, stringent rules are being enforced in these areas, where life has been brought to a standstill due to the observance of strict lockdown rules. Even as the cases have continued skyrocketing, the health department is fighting against the virus by ramping up the number of tests.
Assam has so far registered 6370, out of which 2,400 are active. As many as 9 people have died following complications brought on by the respiratory illness.
