GUWAHATI: Altogether 300 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and State Armed Police (SAP) have been deployed across 47 constituencies spreading 12 districts in Upper and Middle Assam to ensure free-and-fair first phase of the Assembly elections scheduled to be held on Saturday.

A press communiqué issued by the Assam Police Headquarters on Friday stated that out of 300 companies 27 will be deployed for strong room duty and other law-and-order duties. All the critical polling stations will be covered static force. Apart from this every polling station will have one constable and one Home Guard.

According to the press communiqué a total of 23,503 licensed arms existed in the State on December 1, 2030. Out of these 20,296 arms were deposited and 2,533 arms are under exempted/outside State/not purchased category.

Critical polling stations and vulnerable villages are being covered by extensive patrolling/route marches, nakas and community meetings with various stakeholders.
