GUWAHATI: A highway patrolling team of Jorabat Police confiscated a consignment of 209 cartons containing 3,648 bottles of IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) from a truck in Jorabat on Wednesday. The illegal consignment of liquor was supposed to be smuggled with other goods from Assam to Mizoram.
Acitng on a tipoff, the Officer in charge of Jorabat OP (Outpost) intercepted the truck (AS01 MC-95170 in front of the Outpost. The truck driver was held in this connection and was being questioned, said Police officials here.
The driver of the vehicle, Okram Nanao Singh (son of Lamphet – a resident of West Imphal District, Manipur) revealed that the illegal IMFL were concealed with other packed items. However, the driver failed to produce any permit or license of the seized contraband, added Police.
An FIR has been filed at Jorabat OP, under Basistha Police Station. Further probe is underway.
