GUWAHATI: The historic Assam Accord was finalized at dawn on August 15, 1985, and this year it completes 38 years of signing. Although multiple political parties have been in power at the centre and in the state over the years, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) pointed out the non-implementation of the Assam Accord. Although different parties have come to power, the accord has not been implemented. There was no concrete action taken towards the resolution of the problem arising due to the illegal migrants alleged by AASU, raising the question of when the problem will be solved.

The Union said that the implementation of every clause of the Assam Accord would be the only solution to foreign nationals problems. To that end, AASU demanded from the state and central governments a time-bound action plan for the implementation of the Assam Accord. President in Charge Utpal Sharma said the main issue of illegal foreigners problems should be solved permanently. The Union will not be silent until every clause of the Assam Accord is implemented.
