4 From Assam Get Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, 2019 Awards

GUWAHATI: Two writers from Assam have been named for Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar, 2019 and as many for Bal Sahitya Puraskar 2019. While Sanjib Pol Deka of Dibrugarh University bagged the Yuva Puraskar for his Assamese short story collection Ei Pine Ki Ase, Rujab Muchahary has been named the Yuva Puraskar for his Bodo poetry collection Sansri Arw Mwndangthini Mwkhang. In Bal Sahitya Puraskar, while Swmim Nasrin has been named for her Assamese collection of stories Mili, Amia aru Ekhon Nadi and Lakhminath Brahma has been named for his Bodo folk tales Solobatha Khwnasong De.

Among the other northeastern States, while Jiten Oinamba of Manipur has been named for Yuva Puraskar for his Manipuri poetry collection Canvasta Tarakpa Pirangna, RK Sanahanbi Chanu has been named for Bal Sahitya Puraskar for her Manipuri play Thawaishinggi Thawai. Yuva Puraskars were announced on June 14, 2019 for 23 languages. The books that have been named for this prestigious award are 11 poetry collections, six collections of short stories, five novels and one literary criticism. The award carries a copper plaque and Rs 50,000. The awards will be presented at a function to be held later.
