4 members of a family test Covid-19 positive in Guwahati

Guwahati: Amid a sharp spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the Guwahati, four members of a single-family in the city have tested Covid-19 positive.

According to reports in regional media, the family belongs to Dhirenpara area -- where several cases have been detected -- and stay along the K.B Road stretch. This development bears extra significance as it is the first time that as many as 4 cases have been detected in the same family.

Notably, Kamrup (M) is quickly emerging as a coronavirus hub, with the Assam Health Minister, hinting at a community transmission, declaring recently that several patients in the city do not have any travel history whatsoever.

Amid the skyrocketing cases, the district administration has tagged several areas as Containment Zones to arrest the spread of the contagious disease. As of June 20, Guwahati city itself had as many as 141 Containment Zone areas. On June 20, as many as 23 areas in the city were sealed off as per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Biswajit Pegu.

Meanwhile, the tally of Covid-19 positive cases has crossed the 400-mark. Notably, the number skyrocketed upwards on Sunday after 73 people being infected with the virus within 24 hours.

It needs mention here that India has over 4.25 lakh coronavirus cases, recording the biggest single-day jump of 445 deaths. The rise in cases has taken the country's tally to 4,25,282 while the death count rose to 13,699, according to the Union Health Ministry data this morning. 14,821 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, there has been a steady improvement in the recovery rate with 55.77 percent of the Covid-19 patients having recovered so far.
