41st Manik Chandra Barooah Memorial debate competition starts at Cotton University
GUWAHATI: The 41st Manik Chandra Barooah Memorial Debate Competition at Cotton University started on Thursday. It is a two-day debate competition and will continue on September 8. On Thursday, students of the varsity laid wreaths at the statue of Manik Chandra Barooah, the founder of Cotton College (now the University), in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka. A talk on the invaluable contributions of Manik Chandra Barooah was delivered by Guest Speaker Mayur Bora in the presence of a large number of students and members of the faculty at the university premises on September 7.
The main debate competition, which will be held on September 8 this year, will be chaired by Associate Editor of The Hindu, Sandeep Phukan.
It will be inaugurated by the state Director General of Police, G.P. Singh. The competition will be attended by students from many leading educational institutions in the country, stated a press release.
