5 Barak Valley supari mafia in Crime Branch custody

GUWAHATI: Five Barak Valley-based members of the illegal Myanmarese supari smuggling syndicate, identified as Altaf Hussain, Zakir Talukdar, Anjan Paul, Raj Shah and Zakir Hussain, were brought to the city by the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police on Monday. They were produced at the CJM's Court here, which remanded them to five days' police custody.

All the five were lodged in Silchar Central Jail after being arrested recently by the Silchar police in connection with a supari-smuggling-related case.

It may be recalled that the Crime Branch has found a hawala angle during its investigation into the illegal syndicate involving smuggling of supari of Myanmarese origin.
