550 Accident Cases During Four Days of Durga Puja

GUWAHATI: The Puja festivities, along with all the fun and glitter, has also opened a sewer of vice and accidents around the State. Like every other year in the past, the Durga Puja this year has also been marked by a large number of revelers meeting with road traffic accidents in the State. These accidents are only the ones that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. During the four days in the Durga Puja, the State has witnessed as many as 550 road traffic accidents that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. There have been other cases of accidents as well in the State during Durga Puja festival.

According to sources, on October 5, 2019, the State witnessed as many as 121 road traffic accident cases that have been attended to by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Services. Kamrup district has topped the list with 18 road traffic accidents, followed by Sivsagar with 14 accidents and Nagaon coming third with 9 cases.

On October 6, the State had 198 road traffic accidents. On that too, Kamrup district has topped the list with 24 such cases, followed by Darrang with 16 cases and Sonitpur and Jorhat coming third with 15 such cases each.

October 7 (Navami) witnessed as many as 163 road traffic accidents. As usual, Kamrup district has topped the list with 28 such cases. It has been followed by Nagaon with 17 cases and Darrang district has come third with 15 such cases.

The State has been witness to as many as 68 road traffic accidents on October 8 (Dashami), till the point of writing this news. Yet again Kamrup has topped the list with 15 such accidents, followed by Sonitpur with 6 such accidents and Nagaon and Kamrup (M) coming close third with 5 accidents each. It has been noticed that Kamrup has managed to top the list on all the days of the festivities. This is the price that is being paid for the unruly merriment during the Durga Puja.
