70 hectare railway land under encroachment in & around Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: Around 70 hectare of land belonging to the Lumding Division of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway in under encroachment in the stretch from Narengi to Amingaon.

According to sources, an assessment carried out in May this year found 12,024 instances of encroachments in various railway colony areas in and around Guwahati city, amounting to 67.4726 hectare of land. On the other hand, the assessment found 714 instances of encroachment on land abutting railway tracks, amounting to 2.9795 hectare of land.

The sources said that while evictions are carried out with the assistance of the district administrations concerned, the encroachers return after some time and re-occupy railway land.
