8 railway staff awarded for exceptional devotion towards duty by General Manager, NF Railway

GUWAHATI: Eight railway staff namely Kakan Sarkar, Driver/Goods under Alipurduar Division, Amardip Kumar, Asst. Driver under Alipurduar Division, Kuldip Sharma /Junior Engineer /C&W under Rangiya Division, Bakul Chandra Daimary, Tech-I/C&W under Rangiya Division, Jadu Nath Sarkar, Tech-I/C&W under Rangiya Division, Subhan Ch Baruah, Sr Tech/C&W under Tinsukia Division, Silu Das, Tech-I/C&W under Tinsukia Division and Pawan Kumar Sah, Tech-II/C&W under Katihar Division were awarded by General Manager, NF Railway for showing exceptional devotion towards duty.

On April 2, Kakan Sarkar, Driver and Amardip Kumar, Asst Driver under Alipurduar Division was working Dn BCNHL Empty goods train and approaching New Coochbehar station. Suddenly they noticed smoke coming out from the pantry car of train No-12502 Up New Delhi – Guwahati Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express which was coming on up line after starting from New Coochbehar station from the opposite direction. They immediately showed Red hand signal to the Driver & Asst. Driver of the Up Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express. 12502 Up Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express was stopped immediately and fire was extinguished by using fire extinguisher. Due to their alertness a major mishap could be averted.

On April 14, Kuldip Sharma /Junior Engineer, Shri Bakul Chandra Daimary, Tech-I/C&W and Jadu Nath Sarkar, Tech-I/C&W under Rangiya Division while supervising the rolling in – rolling out examination at New Bongaigaon station noticed smoke coming out and hanging parts in coach no. NF/GSCN 01249 of train No 15601 up New Delhi – Silchar Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express. They immediately checked and found that both trolley of the coach were in brake binding condition and brake beam pin of coach no.13027/NFFCWAL was found lacking. They immediately released the brake binding and rectified the brake beam. Due to their alertness a probable mishap was averted.

On April 15, while performing rolling in – rolling out examination at Mariani station Subhan Ch Baruah, Sr Tech/C&W and Silu Das, Tech-I/C&W under Tinsukia Division detected number 8 axle box wing broken and primary spring was in hanging condition of coach No.8827 NF/GSCN of 15934 Up (Amritsar – Dibrugarh Express). They immediately informed on duty Station Manager and finally the coach was detached. Due to their alertness a probable mishap was averted. On April 15, Pawan Kumar Sah, Tech-II/C&W under Katihar Division while doing rolling in examination duty detected “Inner and outer coil spring” missing in rear trolley RHS of wagon no 33018522864 WR/BCN HL of train No- Dn NCB FG. He immediately informed on duty Sr Section Engineer/C&W/Katihar. The said wagon was checked and found unsafe for run and marked sick and detached. Due to his alertness a probable mishap was averted.

In recognition of their meritorious service all of them were awarded with a cash award of rupees three thousand only each along with a certificate issued by the General Manager, NF Railway, a press release stated.
