GUWAHATI: Chief Adviser of AASU (All Assam Students Union) and adviser of NESO (North East Students Organisation) Samujjal Bhattacharya on Sunday sought the intervention of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to stop the shifting of dumping ground to Chandrapur from Boragaon – both located in the city.

Participating in the largely attended public protest demonstration at Chandrapur, Bhattacharya said, "The public of Chandrapur is opposing the move with logic and determination. The democratically elected government of the State should pay heed to their appeal. The residents of this area want that the old Chandrapur area should be transformed as a modern and developed location. They simply don't want garbage there."

The AASU leader added, "The rich bio-diversity of Chandrapur must be preserved for all times to come."

On disposal of garbage, he said, "There must be a scientific manner to dispose the city garbage. Steps should be taken to transform the wastes into fertilizer. This will really help the society. Besides such scientific ways of waste management is the call of the hour." Later, the AASU leader took stock of the health of Rupam Kalita by visiting the youth in his house at Chandrapur. Kalita suffered injuries during the ;lath-charge by police on protestors on July 14.
