Action taken against 2 cops for assaulting motorbike rider in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The in-charge of Paltanbazar Traffic Branch, Pranab Kumar Deka, has been closed to Police Reserve and constable Fakhruddin Ahmed placed under suspension by the Deputy Commissioner of Guwahati Police (Administration) for their involvement in physically assaulting a motorcycle rider on Thursday in the presence of the victim's pillion-riding wife and three-year-old child.

The incident, which was captured on video, resulted in injuries to the woman and child due to the motorcycle falling down during the fracas.

Constable Ahmed has been identified as the instigator of the incident.

It may be mentioned that the motorcycle rider, one Vicky Gupta, has been already arrested and remanded to judicial custody in connection with a case (No. 151/2022) registered at the Paltanbazar Police Station on the basis of a complaint lodged by Fakruddin Ahmed.

On the other hand, Gupta's wife Poonam Das has also filed a case (No. 152/2022) against the policemen involved in the incident.

ADCP (Traffic) Debasish Bora has been asked to investigate the matter. Bora informed the media that action will also be taken against other policemen involved in the incident along with Ahmed.

Both the cases are being investigated, Das said.
