GUWAHATI: After the formation of a new government in Assam, regional party AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) has taken a decision to strengthen the party from the grassroots level.
In this regard, the party has formed various committees comprising five to six members each which will work at the Parliamentary Constituencies. The top brass of the AGP has given the general secretaries, vice presidents and secretaries the responsibility to handle the committees by visiting the respective Parliamentary Constituencies and interacting with the party workers.
It is to be noted that there are a total of 14 Parliamentary Constituencies in the State.
Moreover, the AGP has distributed various works among its general secretaries.
General secretaries Dr Kamala Kanta Kalita and Ramendra Narayan Kalita will look after the party administration. On the other hand, Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya will look after the election-related issues.
Recently, AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora attended a meeting on June 30 regarding the formation of the new committees. Addressing the meet, Bora appealed to the party leaders to work wholeheartedly to strengthen the party. He said that there is still scope for regionalism in Assam thus, the party workers will have to work extensively at the grassroots level.
In the days ahead, an AGP team led by Bora will also meet the Chief Minister to discuss various issues of the party.
