GUWAHATI: The run-up to the general conference of the AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) slated for December 11 is getting hotter by the minute for a number of reasons, especially for the posts of the president and the working president. According to party insiders, the general conference of the party is going be held at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati.

The central committee of the regional party to be formed on December 11 has an all the more important role to play as the party will fight the 2021 Assembly election in the State under this committee as a regional force. What is even more significant is that it will be the first central committee of the party to be formed under its amended constitution.

The regional party had its constitution amended in its recent general house meeting. And the amendment of the constitution of the party means a lot for the regional force. The amendments have brought a whole lot of changes in the party hierarchy – say now the party lays more importance on its Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) committees than the district committees. The situation was quite the opposite till a few days back.

The regional party has been busy in forming its LAC and district committees.

Meanwhile, the race for the post of the president and the working president of the party has already been started. At present, Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, both ministers in Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s Cabinet, are the president and the working president of the party respectively.
