GUWAHATI: With the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) poll nearing, the BJP is closely watching the situation in the BTAD. The national party has its State ally BPF (Bodoland People’s Party) holding power in the BTC for which the election is slated for early 2020.

It is also a fact that around two months back the BJP wanted to raise its strength in the State Assembly from the BTAD. Now the BJP is interested to field candidates in a few constituencies in the BTC poll.

At the same time, the AGP, the other ally of the coalition at Dispur, has also evinced interest in at least two constituencies in the BTAD. The regional party has already identified the constituencies.

According to sources, the defeat of the Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF in Kokrajhar Parliamentary constituency in the recently held Lok Sabha polls has made the BPF think of leaving a few seats for its allies – the BJP and the AGP. This makes amply clear that the ruling alliance at Dispur is ready to fight the BTC poll together.
