GUWAHATI: The Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad Assam (AJYCPA) alleged that the state government was not taking into account the constitutional right of reservation for the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and that proper consideration had not been given in terms of promotion in government jobs. They also mentioned that they had earlier visited Delhi and met with the central organisations in this regard, but even that has not seen any positive output yet.

President of the organisation, Rubul Das, mentioned that representatives had visited New Delhi on June 13 to discuss the matters with the union ministers as well as senior officials of key departments. Representatives of the Karbi Students’ Union and the Dimasa Students’ Union were also present at the meeting. He added that they were forced to take this step after the state government did not pay heed to the demands that they had earlier put forward.

They also met with Mrigen Sarania, the Member of Parliament representing the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes, and discussed these problems. The representatives also requested that the MP highlight these problems in the upcoming sessions of parliament.
