GUWAHATI: The All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) has renewed its demand for re-creation of separate Kamatapur state. The regional convention of the AKRSU was held in Guwahati on Tuesday where several resolutions were adopted. The AKRSU has demanded the Centre to take concrete steps for the re-creation of separate Kamatapur state. The students' union has also demanded the government to clear its stand on the long-pending demand for granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Koch Rajbongshi community.

In the regional convention, the AKRSU made an appeal to leaders of the community not to become victims of any conspiracy to create divisions among them in the name of granting ST status. The AKRSU also welcomed the proposed peace talks between the government and the Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) and expressed hope that the talks would bring about an amicable solution to all issues.
