All Assam Construction Workers Union rally against ‘anti-labour policy’ in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: All Assam Construction Workers Union (AACWU) staged a demonstration against the ‘anti-labour policy’ of the government, at Guwahati Club on Monday.

The union is affiliated to the All India Central Council of Trade Unions (AICCTU). Around 500 workers took part in the demonstration who later submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the labour commissioner.

The workers demanded to strengthen the fund of Welfare Boards and for that one of the GDP should be provided for Construction Workers’ Welfare Board Funds.

The body is against the interest earned through the proposed diversion of Rs. 30,000 crore tax amounts.

Further, they demanded a minimum wage of Rs. 1,000 per day, free housing, education and health, withdrawal of labour codes particularly code on social security and bonus, leave, gratuity and other facilities at per with the regular employees of the Central government.
