GUWAHATI: The All Assam Law Students’ Union (AALSU), on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the chairman of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited, requesting to defer the electricity bill payment of all consumers for at least two months.
The memorandum stated that the penalties and interest for the extended period should also be waived off as every citizen is confined at their residence without any source of earnings and thereby facing difficulties in payment of the electricity bills. It added that, “Due to the lockdown all kind of government, non-governmental and especially daily wage labourers, farmers, tea garden workers and small scale labourers have been hugely effected due to greatest medical cum economic crisis sparking a mega recession, with a prediction of fall on GDP as low as 3.5 per cent starting April 1.”
